For others who require employer-forced structure or lead a life devoid of much organization, there is little hope. People who learn in an unplanned manner usually play off the cuff, and are not going to make money in any game.

Does their job reward them for being an independent thinker? Many folks are stuck in a `work-a-day' existence. Their jobs consist of an anesthetizing routine, thus the predictable response, "Same old, same old" when they are asked how they are doing. "Quiet desperation" saddens me, but it is everywhere. One of the big draws of poker is the ever-changing puzzles and constant mental challenges that arise.

Fortunately, there are jobs that value innovative, dynamic thinking and resemble poker. Most professionals are more successful if they demonstrate thinking that is beyond the minimum requirements for the job, but this is not always the case. People get in the routine of showing up, doing their job, and going on to more satisfying things after work.

This area of analysis is, again, a one-way proposition. A person's career being devoid of opportunities to demonstrate their innovation does not mean that they don't have an inclination to plays cards in the first place seem to take precedence when it comes to behavior.

A person's conduct may overshadow what you are really trying to judge: how well they think when they are taking what feels like a risk to them. Daily practice will help them.

Of course, just because someone takes risks every day this does not mean that his judgment will be sound when faced with a poker decision. It just means that the risk itself is less likely to cloud his thinking.
