A poker player goes through a development in skill as he plays. Some areas of advancement are quantifiable and linear; others may form in nebulous ways, peculiar to the individual. There are some things that certain players seem doomed not to understand whether they study or not.

Depending upon how they learn to play, there may be gaps of ignorance that do not often surface in a typical game. It is usually through discussion that you discover how they may look at poker theory in a way that is just plain wrong and costs them dearly.

Oddly enough, scores of poker players spend so much time verbally justifying playing hands that they give you a non-stop dissertation as to how they play and think!

A huge part of getting into your opponents' heads involves understanding their thinking process, which is intrinsically complicated even in the simplest of players. I have already covered some different aspects of how individuality affects a person's cognitive route, and in the following chapters, I will give ideas that are more concrete for you to use to evaluate opponents.
